KATHMANDU, MAY 7
Recent military tensions between India and Pakistan have had a spillover effect on security arrangements along the Nepal-India border. In response, security forces have intensified surveillance and enforcement at key border points.
In Dhanusha district, heightened security measures have been implemented, particularly at the Jatahi and Bhittamod crossings, where security personnel from both Nepal and India have been deployed.
Deputy Inspector General of the Armed Police Force, Nepal (Chhinnamasta Barrack), Krishna Dhakal, stated that individuals crossing the border are being questioned regarding their identity and destination. Likewise, Deputy Superintendent of Police Pramod Raya, stationed at the Jatahi point, said, "We have increased security surveillance."
Authorities clarified that although Nepal has not been directly impacted by the India-Pakistan tensions, increased vigilance has been adopted due to the sensitivity of the border zones from a security perspective.
The tightened surveillance has also affected daily life in local communities. Residents and traders in border towns have reported disruptions in local markets and routine activities due to the enhanced security protocols.
Similarly, security has been strengthened in the border areas of Rupandehi district.
The Armed Police Force has stepped up its presence at Belahiya, Lumbini, and Bhagawanpur border points. Sniffer dogs have also been deployed as part of the intensified security operations.
