KATHMANDU, MAY 11

Funuru Sherpa, the ward chair of Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-1 in Solukhumbu district, has pledged to donate his allowances to the management of drinking water in the ward.

Sherpa has committed to hiring an employee to monitor the upkeep of the Buksa drinking water supply system, which serves the residents of the ward, in order to alleviate the community's water supply concerns.

With this the monthly fee of Rs 190 per households previously charged for maintenance purposes, will be waived.

This decision comes in the midst of a nearly four-month-long water supply problem caused by political tensions around the appointment of new public representatives in the ward.

To address the issue effectively, an 11-member committee of drinking water consumers has been formed under the chairmanship of Furtendi Sherpa.

The Buksa drinking water supply, which originates from the Nakkharka Spring situated at an altitude of 2,840 meters, urrently supplies 116 families in the area.
