RAJBIRAJ, NOVEMBER 16

Janata Samajbadi Party- Nepal Chairperson Upendra Yadav has said their struggle for rights is very much under way.

Speaking at a party programme to welcome new entrants to the party at Kanchanpur of Saptari today, the JSP-N chair announced that their struggle for the rights of communities and tribes oppressed for ages was still continuing.

"The rights of the oppressed and suppressed communities and tribes are far from ensured, so our struggle for these rights will continue until they are ensured," said Yadav, also calling on the communities and tribes 'receiving the wrong end of the stick' from the state in the past to unite to protect the gains of federalism, republicanism and inclusion.

"Today, if the members from Madhesi, indigenous, Dalit, Tharu, women and other minority communities are at all levels from local to provincial and the federal government, and in provincial assemblies and other places, it's all because of federalism and republicanism that we are practising," said the JSP-N supremo Yadav, also stressing the need to change the existing electoral system and governance system.

"Dalits, Tharus, women and others are now represented at different levels of the government and administration, but that representation is far from enough. And as the present polling and governance systems are the biggest stumbling blocks for ensuring full representation, we must have fully proportional election, governance and administration systems," he held.

On a different note, he lamented widespread corruption in the country, blaming it for being the biggest hurdle towards the economic transformation of the country.

He also expressed confidence that the citizenship-related act will be soon ratified by the Parliament.

"As the act has been tabled in the Parliament, I hope it will soon be passed by the Parliament, Yadav said, also sharing his party's vision for creating employment opportunities in the country by resuming closed industries.

The leader, on the occasion, expressed happiness while welcoming new entrants into the party and pledged to provide deserving space to the new entrants.

Many leaders and cadres from the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre had joined the JSP-N party leaving their own parties.

Various other leaders of the party also spoke on the occasion.
