KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 6
Three fringe communist parties - Communist Party Nepal led by Netra Bikram Chand, the CPN led by Rishi Kattel, and the Scientific Socialist Communist Party led by Vishwabhakt Dulal announced that they would boycott the House of Representatives and provincial elections scheduled for November 20.
Organising a joint press conference in Kathmandu today, the three small leftwing parties announced they would boycott the elections. They also called on all to disrupt the election.
The parties called for a political gathering in Kathmandu on November 9, Butwal and Itahari on November 12, Bardibas and Pokhara on November 12, and Surkhet and Dhangadi on November 16. Similarly, the parties also called for mass protest programmes and corner meetings to be held from November 12 to 16 across the country.
Chand had already announced election boycott. The other two parties joined him today.
"As the election won by brokers does not ensure the rights of the people, we had to adopt a policy of boycotting the election," he said.
CPN Chairman Rishi Kattel, in a press meet said they had decided to boycott the election to end parliamentarianism in Nepal.
He also said revolution in the country had not ended and no true changes were seen. "To make the revolution a success and to really establish the power of people in governance, we have decided to boycott the election."
The SSPN general secretary said the upcoming election was a mere gimmick and changes could be made successful only after uniting all the communist parties in the country.
