Three hurt in students’ protest rally

Biratnagar, September 22:

Three students were injured in a clash when the police intervened a rally organised by the eight student unions at the Roadshesh Chowk of Biratnagar today. The police intervened the rally when the protesters tried to burn an effigy to protest against the remarks made by vice-chairman of the council of ministers Dr Tulsi Giri. Shailesh Baral vice secretary of All Nepal National Students’ Union (ANNFSU) sub-metropolis committee, Biratnagar was seriously injured in the clash. Baral is undergoing treatment at Koshi Zonal Hospital, Biratnagar. Similarly, ANNFSU Morang district president Parul Chhetry and Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) district member Krishna Karki were also injured. Eyewitnesses said the injured student leaders have burn injuries in different parts their bodies.

Meanwhile, the eight student unions announced to stop plying of government vehicles in the district tomorrow and day after to protest against today’s police intervention. In a joint press statement issued today, the student unions have condemned the police atrocities on a peaceful rally. Meanwhile, the seven agitating political parties have announced protest rally on coming Tuesday in Biratnagar to protest against the recently concluded regional convention of district development committee chairmen and vice chairmen of eastern region. The Morang district president of Nepali Congress (NC) Amrit Aryal said an all-party meeting held last Tuesday in the NC office had taken the decision.
