CHITWAN:  Time card system has been implemented from Bharatpur of Chitwan to Manahari of Makawanpur district aiming to curb increasing road accidents due to trucks and tippers along the road section.

The District Traffic Police Office of Chitwan has implemented the time card system from Sunday after receiving high number of complaints that the number of accidents has increased due to trucks and tippers plying along the road section and moving in high speed.

Out of the total number of accidents that took place along the road section in the current fiscal year, 26 per cent accidents took place due to trucks and tippers.

As per the time card rule, the vehicles heading toward Bhandara from Gondrang of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-12 will have to reach within 45 minutes.

Santosh Panta, Chief at the District Traffic Police Office said that an arrangement has been made that the vehicles plying toward Manahari of Makawanpur from Bhandara have to reach within 35 minutes.The distance between Bhandara and Manahari is 20 kilometres.

Panta said that Gongrang, Bhandara and Manahari police would carry out monitoring whether or not the vehicles are violating the time card system.

He further added that action will be taken against the vehicles violating the system.

More than 2,000 trucks and tippers use this road section every day. A total of 115 road accidents occurred along the road section till January 15 of the current fiscal year.

Panta added that 61 people lost their lives while 230 were injured, where 30 accidents had the involvement of trucks and tippers.
