88,680 visitors recorded; India remains top source market

KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 1

Nepal welcomed 88,680 international tourists in August 2025, an increase of 22 percent compared to the same month last year, according to the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).

Among the arrivals, 35,505 were from India, accounting for 40 percent of the total. Other major source markets included China (7,533; 8.5%), the United States (6,068; 6.8%), Sri Lanka (5,956; 6.7%), and Bangladesh (4,262; 4.8%), NTB said.

Tourist arrivals from January to August 2025 stood at 736,562. By region, South Asia (SAARC) contributed 53 percent, followed by other Asian countries (17.8%), Europe (12.6%), and Oceania (2.7%). Arrivals also included 8.2 percent from North America, 1.1 percent from the Middle East, 0.4 percent from Africa, and 4.1 percent from other countries.

In July 2025, Nepal had recorded 70,193 tourist arrivals.

NTB Chief Executive Officer Deepak Raj Joshi said the rise in arrivals reflected the tourism sector's gradual recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that the addition of Air India Express flights has contributed to increased arrivals from India.
