Two polio patients traced

BIRATNAGAR: Fifteen-month-old Rahul Shrestha, who was taken to Rani Health Post in Biratnagar for getting his polio drops on Saturday, was found infected with polio symptoms, said the District Public Health Office (DPHO), Morang.

“Because of sudden paralysis for the past one week, his legs are not moving,” said Rahul’s father, Kapil. “He is a possible polio case,” said Navaraj Subba, chief of the Morang DPHO. Subba has asked the child’s family members to get the necessary tests done. Meanwhile, the Rastriya Samachar Samiti reported that in Birgunj a baby girl was detected with polio. Dr Keshav Yogi of the World Health Organisation, Polio Centre in Birgunj said polio virus was detected in Phulmati, the 18-month-old daughter of Safurdin Chihar of Alau village development committee ward number four in Parsa district. Phulmati is reported to have a feeble right leg.

Doctors at the centre have suspected Phulmati of having been infected with the disease some two months ago but it was confirmed only after the result of the stool test carried out in a laboratory in Bangkok, Thailand, arrived last month, it is learnt.
