Community Center Reconstruction and 500-Ropani Retreat Center Among Ambitious Development Plans

The United Sherpa Association (U.S.A.) Inc. / Sherpa Kyidug America – New York has officially announced the launch of two significant long-term structural projects aimed at strengthening cultural preservation, religious practice, social inclusion, and infrastructure development for the Sherpa community in USA.
According to Pasang Sherpa, Secretary and Public Relations Coordinator association, the first major initiative involves complete reconstruction and modernization of the main Kyidug building in New York to meet contemporary community needs.
The project aims to create a secure, organized, and effective facility capable of hosting community programs, administrative functions, and cultural and religious activities. The development focuses on building robust and sustainable infrastructure to meet the long-term requirements of the Sherpa community in New York, he stated.
The second transformative project will establish a Community House and Retreat Center on approximately 500 ropani (about 62 acres) of land in Wallkill, New York. This multi-purpose facility is designed to accommodate spiritual, cultural, and educational programs, as well as youth and children's activities and special community celebrations. The infrastructure is being planned with sustainability and longevity in mind to serve future generations of the Sherpa community, sherpa added.
The decisions were endorsed during the Executive Committee meeting of November 8 and later affirmed in a joint meeting of the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee on November 15, sherpa noted.
To implement both projects, the association has formed a Main Construction Committee responsible for leadership, planning and execution. The committee's coordinators include Trustee Chair Lhakpa Rinji Sherpa, former president Chhomba Thimi Sherpa, and former trustee coordinator Kyasang Chhomba (Chhomba Lama). Former general secretary Sangye Sherpa of Bhojpur will serve as secretary, while Phurnima Sherpa of Bigu, Dolakha has been appointed treasurer.
Committee members include engineer Temba Sherpa, the current president; religious leader Tulku Urgen Khambuchhe; and founding treasurer Lawang Sherpa. Additional members will be appointed on an area-wise and region-wise basis as the projects progress.
