Ward office, health facility occupy school building in Saptari
Rajbiraj, June 3
Teaching-learning activities have been affected badly at a school in Mahadeva Rural Municipality, Saptari, after its building was occupied by the ward office and a health facility.
The Ward No 5 office of Mahadeva Rural Municipality and Urban Health Clinic had occupied the building of Bhagawati Rastriya Basic Level School a year ago.
The school has been running classes at Ward No 6-based Bajarangabali Basic Level School by merging students of both the schools for the last one year. Bajarangawali Basic Level School has 270 students, while 160 children are studying in Bhagawati Rastriya Basic Level School.
The head teachers duo Ram Krishna Pandit of Bhagawati Rastriya Basic Level School and Krishna Dev Mandal of Bajarangawali Basic Level School said classrooms were provided to the ward office and the health facility for a short period of time until the ward office got its own building.
“But the people’s representatives have not constructed the infrastructure of the ward office yet,” they said. The head teachers further added they had already urged the ward office to find an alternative.
Meanwhile, Ward No 5 Chair Manoj Prasad Mandal and Ward No 6 Chair Umesh Yadav said the classrooms were occupied due to lack of building to run the ward office.
They said classrooms would be vacated as soon as they found an alternative.
Education Coordination Unit Committee Chief Phanindra Khatri said, “Instead of ensuring quality education at the schools under the local level, people’s representatives are depriving students of education.”
