KATHMANDU, JULY 31

Former Minister Upendra Yadav has been elected as the parliamentary party leader of Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal (JSP-N), on Saturday.

Yadav was elected for the post unopposed, informed the Election Commission.

Yadav's candidacy for the post was made in line with the proposal by party leader Mahendra Raya Yadav and backed by party leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai.

The parliamentary party meeting was conducted today in presence of 20 members of House of Representatives and two two members of the National Assembly from the party.

Earlier, the Election Commission had authenticated the Upendra Yadav-Baburam Bhattarai faction of JSP-N.

Following the development, Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal leader Mahantha Thakur, who lost the authenticity battle to party Co-chair Upendra Yadav, filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court on Friday challenging the Election Commission's decision to recognise the Upendra Yadav-Baburam Bhattarai faction as the authentic party.
