Style and glamour

KATHMANDU: Variety is definitely the buzzword for The Himalayan Times TGIF Nepal Fashion Week ‘09 from September 7-11 as all the designers have used a wide array of fabrics, colours, silhouettes and detail works in their creations. Chiffon, georgette, satin and cotton are some of the most used fabrics, while in terms of colour the designers have included almost all the basic colours in their collection. Drapes to asymmetrical cuts, the designers have explored various options to give an interesting touch to the garments.

And the variety is not just limited to the designs for along with Nepali models, seven international models will be walking the ramp. In addition, some sequences also have celebrities like Richa Ghimire, Ciney Gurung and former Miss Nepal Usha Khadgi walking the TGIF Nepal Fashion week ramp.

The Himalayan Times TGIF Nepal Fashion Week 2009 is being organised by IEC in association with Chivas Regal. The main sponsor is Löwenbräu, and the event is supported by Linen Club. The creative partner is Echoad, with VLCC as the beauty partner. The official host of the event

is Hotel Yak and Yeti, the official carrier Nepal Airlines and Avenues Television is the official news partner.

The ticket for the event is priced at Rs 1,720 which includes dinner and a complimentary drink.

Day 3 Designers

THEME: SUMMER OF 69 and SHAGUN

Designers: Prem Shankar Deo, Ansu Jha, Teresha Thapa and Indira Gimire (Kathmandu)


Summer of 69

The very popular Bryan Adams number Summer of 69 has been the inspiration behind this summer collection. The colour palette includes red, pink, green, golden and maroon while the fabrics used are cotton, denim, chiffon and tissue. Lots of unusual drapes and blousons with different specific details like patterned and printed inserts are the highlight of this theme.


Shagun

This theme also celebrates the most important day in a woman’s life — wedding. Meant for brides this collection includes saris, lehengas and blouses of different variety. Made in chiffon, georgette, net and satin these traditional attires have variety of detail work like zardosi, tikri, metal, sequins and beads. Bright colours like white, pink, blue and green are more seen in this collection that includes silhouettes like from drape, fishtail, circular, flared to off- shoulder.


THEME: EVENING

VINTAGE

Designers: Shruti Shrestha, Menuka Bhandari, Nisha Shrestha and Pabitra Thapa Magar (Kathmandu)

Evening wear with a touch of Victorian era — this is what Evening Vintage is all about. Made in fabrics like satin, tissue, net, lycra and crepe, the silhouette ranges from layered to asymmetrical cuts. The designers have used colours like blue, white, black, golden and red and have included details like frills and enlarged bows.


THEME: FLOWER POWER

Designers: Raj Bikram Shrestha, Raju Maharjan, Deepika Kutu and Sadiksha Mahat (Kathmandu)

Gowns and dresses featuring flowers as brooch, embroidery and even patch work has been used by the designers to highlight the flower power. Just like their inspiration is full of colour their dresses are also multicoloured


THEME: QUILTS

Designers: Manju Purja, Shiva Kumari Gurung, Kokilla Malla and Vishnu Maya Gurung (Pokhara)

This theme is titled as Quilts for the designers have used a lot of decorative stitching. They have used silk, cotton, georgette in various basic colours like yellow, black, blue, white and purple.


THEME: COCKTAIL PARTY

Designers: Sonij Gurung, Hem Pun, Kashish Gurung and Kriti Poudel (Pokhara)

Full of colours, the dresses in this collection are made in fabrics like silk, crepe and cotton. Yellow, red and purple are the mostly used colours in these dresses that are meant for various occasions.


THEME: WHYTE-LIE

Designers: Eliza Giri, Rasna Shrestha, Chandani Chhetri and Sunita Thapa Magar (Kathmandu)

This group has created something of a paradox by combining the innocence of white colour with the maliciousness of a lie. Creating their own style sense with their clothes, their focus is more on drapes and variety of cuts.

THEME: BARBIE GOES TO BAZAAR

Designers: Munna Bhandari, Manita Thapa, Mina Gajurel and Bhandana Bhandari (Kathmandu)

Bringing the girl who has the best figure and who has been loved by generations, this group of designers have created their collection keeping in mind the most popular doll of all time — Barbie. Bows, frills and layered frills are

dominant in most

of the dresses that are of satin, crepe, tissue, net and organza. Mostly of bright and eye catching

colours the silhouettes are A-line and princess cut.


THEME: A WALK WITH THE TIME

Designers: Santoshi Shrestha, Trishna Gurung, Laxmi Gurung and Srijana Adhikari (Kathmandu)

A complete range of office wear this collection consists of short shirts, waist coasts, trousers and fitting short skirts with a variety of coats. To match the corporate look, the designers have used more of neutral shades and other colours like ash and charcoal grey, white and black.

These formal attires have piping, pleats and interesting dart details. They have also used accessories like belts.
