KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 6

Lines of taxis are parked during a protest on Saturday after a running taxi was set on fire during Thursday's general strike, in Kathmandu.

Dahal-Nepal faction of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) had organised the general strike on February 4, in protest of appointments to constitutional bodies, bypassing parliamentary hearings, on Wednesday.

The two splinter groups of NCP have been organising protest programmes and mass gatherings against one another after the party went through a split following the dissolution of House of Representatives by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, a move called undemocratic and unconstitutional by many.

On the day of the general strike, strike enforces had torched the taxi in the capital city, an act that has been widely criticised.
