Basnet to run today
Kathmandu, August 23:
Nepal Army athlete Arjun Kumar Basnet will take part in marathon on the closing day of the Beijing Olympic Games on Sunday.
Basnet is the last of the eight Nepali to participate in the Games.
The 10th South Asian Games silver medallist and the Asian Games participant, Basnet will at least try to better his personal record of 2:21:00. Legendary Baikuntha Manandhar holds the national record at 2:15:03.
Of the eight Nepali players representing Nepal at the Games, shooter Phool Maya Kyapchhaki, weightlifter Kamal Bahadur Adhikari, judo player Devu Thapa and swimmers Prasiddha Jung Shah and Karishma Karki, sprinter Chandra Kala Thapa (100m) and taekwondo player Deepak Bista have already been eliminated from the Games. Apart from Adhikari, who broke national record, others’ performance at the Games ended in disappointment.
