Golden Gate International College advanced to the men's section quarter-finals of the Lama Tendi Sherpa Memorial Open Basketball Tournament here at the NSC covered hall on Thursday.

Golden Gate defeated Campion Solo 77-63 to finish as Group D winners. Karma Gurung top scored for Golden Gate with 27 points, while Manish Rajopadhyaya netted 17 for Campion. In another match, Royal Basketball Academy outplayed Xavier International College 98-67 riding on 22 points from Bikash Gurung.

Anish Magar of Xavier scored 15 points. In women's section, Royal Basketball Academy registered a narrow 51-50 victory over Nepal Police Club. Chhiring Sherpa of Royal top scored in the match netting 24 points, while Roshani Shrestha contributed 15 for NPC. A total of 13 teams are taking part in the men's section, while five teams are competing in women's category of the 11-day championship organised by Nepal Basketball Association to pay tribute to its former president Lama Tendi Sherpa. Top two teams in both categories will receive Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively, while the MVPs will get Rs 10,000 each.
