Elephant Polo begins

BARDIYA: Tepa of Thailand, Bardiya National Park, Angers Energy and Chivas Regal won their respective inaugural matches of the 28th International Elephant Polo Championships here on Monday. Tepa defeated Force Rock Choice 8-7, Bardiya overcame New York Blue 12-4, Anger Energy eased past Frog Hunter 8-2 and Chivas Regal beat Century Ace 5-4. Pumka Chumkas were held to a 8-8 stalemate by Karnali Dolphins while Tiger Tops Tusker and Tiger Tops Spice Girls played a 6-6 draw. In all, 12 teams are participating in the tournament organised jointly by the World Elephant Polo Federation and Tiger Tops Karnali Lodge.

Kotdevi advance

BHAKTAPUR: Kotdevi and Greenwich School entered the quarter-finals of the fourth FECA Cup Inter-school Football Tournament on Monday. Kotdevi beat Career 2-0 with a goal from Kiran Pandey and an own goal from Career. Greenwich recorded a 2-0 over Manank with goals from Prakash Thapa and Sagar Ale.

NECOS formed

KATHMANDU: A CPN-UML affiliated sports group have formed Nepal Confederation of Sports (NECOS) under the presidency of Purushottam Poudel on Sunday. The national convention of the group formed a 75-member committee, NECOS informed on Monday. The committee includes Vice-president Bijaya Rai, General Secretary Laxman Shrestha, Secretary Raju Shrestha and Treasurer Birendra Shrestha. A month earlier, a separate group from the same party had formed the Madan Bhandari Sports Foundation.

Hosts, Wilson win

LALITPUR: Hosts Gyanodaya Bal Batika and Wilson Academy started with wins on the inaugural day of the boys' basketball matches of the 16th Eicher Gyan Carnival on Monday. Tenjing Sherpa posted 29 points to give Gyanodaya a 82-42 win over Prithvi. Wilson edged past Galaxy Public School 53-52 riding

on 20 points from Anil Pandey. In

the girls' section, Prithvi defeated Galaxy 23-17 with 12 points from Sakuntala Dhimal.
