Manang Marsyangdi Club take on Ratnam Sports Club today

Kuching, May 10:

Nepali league champions Manang Marsyangdi Club (MMC) will take on Ratnam Sports Club of Sri Lanka in their first match at the second AFC President’s Cup football tournament at the Sarawag Stadium on Thursday.

Pitted in Group ‘A’, MMC is scheduled to play FC Vashkh on May 13 and Dordoi-Dynamo on May 15.

In order to acclamatise with the local conditions, MMC went to Bangkok for a week-long training and played two practice matches with the local teams. The tour also gave them the much needed exposure and an ample opportunity to set the team.

“We are very much focused for our first match, which will ultimately decide our fate,” MMC coach Chhiring Lobsang Gurung said, adding he would adopt a 4-4-2 format against the Sri Lankan league champions.

Considering its outing in Bangkok, the forward line could be a point to worry. In their practice matches, both Anil Gurung and Raj Kumar Ghising failed to prove themselves.

Two new signings, Anil Gurung and Raj Kumar Ghising, will make their debut as strikers for MMC. Pravesh Katuwal, Basanta Gauchan, Nirajan Khadka and Nabin Neupane will hold the midfield while Sandip Rai and Umesh Upreti will play as wingers.

Skipper Tashi Tsering and Sagar Thapa will lead defence line while Sangeet Rajak will guard the post. Prasant Giri and Khum Gurung will start from the bench. “We are up against two strong teams but still, we hope to advance to the semi-finals,” Tashi said. He said that they would make a strategy if they win the first match. “Beating Ratnam SC is, however, not that easy as eight of their players have already made it to the Sri Lankan national squad,” Tashi added.
