Nepal open with victory

Kathmandu, May 23:

Nepal registered a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Germany in the opening day match of the ICC World Cricket League Division-V in Jersey on Friday.

Electing to bat first, Germany were all out for 69 runs in 39.4 overs and Nepal overcame the total losing three wickets in 19.4 overs. Basanta Regmi was pick of the Nepali bowlers with 3-4 while man of the match Mehboob Alam bowled an unchanged 10-over spell taking two wickets. Shakti Gauchan, Raj Kumar Pradhan and skipper Binod Das also bagged one wickets each.

Nepal had terrible start losing their opener Paresh Lohani in the first over. Nepal lost two more wickets but overcame the target with ease. Mahesh Chhetri top-scored with 26 runs. In their last meeting at the ICC Trophy in Canada (2001), Nepal had beaten Germany by two runs.

Nepal will take on Mozambique in their next Group A match on Saturday. Other teams in the group include the United States, Norway and Vanuata.
