Kathmandu, March 20

Nepal boxer Anjani Teli created yet another history in the IBA Women's World Boxing Championships in New Delhi, India today.

Teli, who became the first Nepali boxer to register a win in the World Championship in the first round, entered the record books for the second time in five days when she advanced to the quarter-finals. Teli, who is now one win away from the historic medal in the World Championship, will fight against Apanasovich Yuliya of Belarus for a place in the semi-finals. Competing in the women's 52kg weight category, Teli registered a 5-0 victory over top seeded boxer Katherine Maria Sterling from Haiti in the round of 16 match. The unseeded Nepali boxer recorded lopsided victory over Sterling, who had a first-round bye.

Teli had defeated Dominican Republic's Hernandez Garcia Miguelina in the first round bout on March 16.

Teli remains as the lone medal hope for Nepal as other boxers - Sangita Sunar (60kg), Saraswati Rana (70kg), Sushma Tamang (48kg), Minu Gurung (54kg), Asmita Duwal (50kg) and Chandrakala Thapa (57kg) - have already crashed out of the championship.
