NRT to tour eight cities
Kathmandu, August 31:
Nepali ‘A’ Division outfit New Road Team (NRT) is setting off for a nation-wide tour to play friendly football matches starting from September 6.
NRT is slated to tour eight cities where they will play friendly matches against the local teams.
The NRT will first travel to Janakpur where they will play a match with Janakpur-XI on September 6. They will also take on Knight Chess Club of Kakarvitta, Rastriya Jagriti Club of Itahari, Young Star Club of Kawasoti, Sudur Paschhim Football Team of Mahendranagar, Nepalgunj Club of Nepalgunj, Baglung-XI of Baglung before wrapping up the tour with a match against Gorkha-XI of Gorkha on September 27.
“The main objective of the tour is to try and push start sporting activities, which has been marred by internal conflicts in the sport,” said Kiran Krishna Shrestha, team leader of the nepa~laya.
Kathmandu Khel Mandal (KKM), the mother organisation of the NRT, is partnering with the nepa~laya to organise the tour. KKM will look after the footballing part while nepa~laya will manage the tour.
“We are glad with the partnership with Nepa ~laya. This kind of sporting initiatives is a positive step and we hope it will bring about a positive impact in the sporting sector, especially football,” said KKM and NRT chairman Narendra Shrestha, who is also the general secretary of All Nepal Football Association.
Along with the football matches, football clinics for local children and referee workshops will also be organised during the tour. Football clinics will be conducted by NRT coaches Yogamber Suwal and Maheswor Mulmi. FIFA referee Sri Ram Ranjitkar will conduct the referee workship.
