Top Nepali pro Sukra Bahadur Rai carded two-under 68 in the opening round of the Tata Steel PGTI Players Championship at the Tollygunge Club in Kolkata today.
Rai, who earned PGTI Tour's full card for the second straight season last week, shared the 20th position with 11 golfers in the first event of the Professional Golf Tour of India, which carries a cash purse of INR 10 million.
Rai carded one-under 33 on the front nine and played one-under 36 on the latter half. He made a poor start dropping a shot on the first hole before carding birdies on the fifth and seventh. He faced another bogey on the eighth and carded third birdie of the day on the ninth.
On the back nine, Rai carded one-under 35.
He faced bogeys on the 13th and 18th holes against birdies on the 10th, 15th and 17th holes.
Indian pro Sachin Baisoya carded six-under 64 to take one stroke lead. Six Indian golfers, Varun Chopra, Aryan Roopa Anand, Angad Cheema, Om Prakash Chouhan, Ajay Baisoya and Aman Raj shared the second position at 65. Six golfers are tied for eighth at 66.
A total of 126 golfers are taking part in the 72-hole competition that carries a cash purse of INR 10 million.
