Sherpa claims Monthly Medal title

Ang Dorjee Sherpa won the tenth edition title of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stroke play full handicap format, the 15-handicap amateur golfer Sherpa returned the card of five-under 67 to win the nett section trophy of the 10th and final edition of the Monthly Medal. Pradeep Kumar Shrestha finished second with the score of two-under 70, while Rabindra Tiwari was third on count back after he was tied on one-under 71 with Dhruba Thapa and Nareshwor Gurung.

Tashi Tsering won the gross section trophy with the score of even-par 72, registering one-stroke victory over his younger brother Wangchen Dhondup. Sam Doublard won the junior category title with the score of four-over 76.

In all, 38 golfers took part in the tournament organised by Gokarna Golf Club under the sponsorship of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. Captain of Gokarna Golf Club Joseph Nathan handed over the prizes to the winners. After the 10th edition, top 40 players in nett section, 10 in gross category and five in junior category qualified for the Club Championship finals. The finals will be played over two rounds in January and February next year.

Surendra Phuyal currently leads the nett section with 385 points, while Devendra Bajgai is second with 275. Ang Dendi Sherpa is third with 180, followed by Pavitra Kumar Karki (135) and Jigmay Dongstetsang (130). Dawa J Sherpa, Pradeep Kumar Shrestha, Ang Dorjee Sherpa, Phintso Ongdi Lama and Atmaram Simkhada are in top 10.

In gross section, Tashi Tsering is at the top of the table with 600 points, while Surendra Phuyal is second with 550 points. Wangchen Dhondup is third at 330, followed by Tashi Dong (205) and Dhruba Thapa (120). Likewise, Arnav Shah leads the junior section standing with 515 points, while Sam Doublard is second with 450. Ang Phurba Sherpa and Mayank Dahal share the third position with 380 points, while Shreeyog Basnyat is fifth with 120.
