Patient rescued from trauma centre

Kathmandu, March 20

The National Trauma Centre has released Amar Budhathoki, 36, from Sunpur tole of Laxmipur VDC from its post operative ward as a helping hand appeared to clear this medical bills at the hospital.

After reading a story entitled “Unable to pay bills, patient languishes in trauma centre with wife, children,” this daily published on March 17, Rajkumar Banka, a resident of Naxal in Kathmandu, rescued Amar, who got his proximal radius and tibial plateau fractured while dismantling a quake-ravaged building in Thamel nearly three months after the devastating April earthquake.

“I personally decided to rescue Amar from NTC and support the poverty stricken family to continue his further treatment,” said Banka, who is also the Vice President for Techno-Commercial at Solu Hydropower Pvt Ltd.

Pushpa along with her two daughters rushed her husband to Bhaktapur-based Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Center later in the afternoon as Dr SK Giri referred him to SIRC for therapy and physical exercise.

Banka paid Rs 22,200 while hospital also offered a discount of Rs 20,000 to release the patient, according to Dr Pramod Kumar Upadhyaya, medical superintendent at NTC.

Amar waited for more than three months to move to SIRC even after getting discharged from NTC as his family failed to clear the due amount.

“We can also offer further support to Amar and his family through the Sai Sewa Pariwar, the community I belong to,” Banka said.

Police, however, said search for Krishna Surkheti of Gorkha, who employed Amar and others to demolish the building, was on.
