51-point tourism revival declaration issued

POKHARA: A 51-point Pokhara Declaration Paper was issued today with a view to reviving tourism industry shattered by the deadly quake of April 25 and its aftershocks.

The meeting that started yesterday concluded with the declaration paper on Monday.

The meeting was organised in collaboration with the Legislature Parliament Development Committee, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Nepal Tourism Board.

Constituent Assembly Chairman Subas Chandra Nembang, Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat and stakeholders of the tourism industry had showed up for the event.

Pokhara Declaration 2015 for Tourism Revival states that regional international airports will be constructed in Pokhara and Bhairahawa at the earliest. The declaration has many provisions aimed at luring foreign tourists to the country.

Tourism Department’s General Director Tulashi Prasad Gautam said that his office had provisioned multiple-entry to Annapurna Conservation Area and other places for one month. The declaration urges Nepali embassies and diplomatic offices abroad to help promote tourism. They have been requested to air positive message about Nepal through international media.

The paper includes a provision for devising a reliable work plan to reconstruct religious, cultural and natural heritages shattered by the quake.

The paper also pledges to put in place e-visa system for the convenience of tourists.

Pledges have been made to maintain cleanliness and beauty and to facilitate Nepal’s only Tribhuvan International Airport.

A commitment has also been made to establish emergency rescue fund at Nepal Tourism Board to help tourists during crisis.
