Baghkhor hotels reeling under water crisis

Dadeldhura, March 23

Hotel entrepreneurs in Dadeldhura district headquarters Bagkhor have been hit hard due to acute shortage of water.

According to Khalanga Drinking Water Consumer Committee chairperson Rabi KC, a number of hotels are on the verge of closure due to water crisis.

“As the crisis induced by long drought does not seem to be easing, the hotel business is struggling for survival,” he said.

“Though we have proper water supply system and tanks for better management of the supply of water, we have been reeling under shortage as the water sources have gone dry,” he said.

There are over three dozen small and big hotels in Baghkor.

While a big hotel needs up to 5,000 litres of water every day, the small ones require up to 2,000 litres on a daily basis.

Likewise, hundreds of households at the district headquarters are also reeling under water shortage.

Commenting on the scarcity of water, owner of Rhino Hotel Bhojraj Awasthi shared his plight of having to fetch water from a far away place by paying a heavy price. “As we have to run our business, we’re compelled to ferry water from faraway places by hiring vehicles,” he said.

On his part, Hotel Entrepreneurs Association Dadeldhura chairperson Govind Khadayat lamented the nonchalance of the concerned authorities. “We have conveyed our concerns to the concerned authorities time and again, but they seem least bothered and we have no option but to suffer,” he said.
