Kathmandu, March 12

Minister for Finance Yubaraj Khatiwada today said that the government will soon explore diplomatic channels to promote Nepali products in the global market.

Citing that boosting Nepali exports is the major tool in making country’s economy self-sustained, Minister Khatiwada said that the government will utilise diplomatic channels to promote Nepali goods in coming days.

Addressing the 24th annual general assembly of the Federation of Nepal Small and Cottage Industries (FNSCI) in the Capital today, Khatiwada said, “Promotion of small and cottage industries and their produces is key to generate employment opportunities and achieve economic growth. The government will utilise all the available means to promote such industries and Nepali products in the global market.”

Similarly, Khatiwada also said that the government will encourage private sector to invest in small and medium industries.

On the occasion, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Matrika Prasad Yadav urged the private sector to come up with proposals suggesting the government the kind of support that they are expecting from the government.

“The new government will closely work with the private sector to promote industrialisation, export and business-friendly environment,” said Yadav.

Meanwhile, FNCSI President Shyam Prasad Giri said that the government still lacks willingness to promote small and medium industries and production of Nepali goods. “The government should facilitate small entrepreneurs in production and marketing of goods,” said Giri.
