KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 17

The price of precious metals decreased in the trading week between December 11 and 16. In the domestic market, gold price decreased by Rs 600 per tola, while silver price fell by Rs 30 a tola during the review week.

According to the rate list of Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Association (FeNeGoSiDA), gold price was fixed at 100,500 per tola when the market opened for trading on Sunday and fell by Rs 300 a tola on Monday. The price of the precious yellow metal decreased by Rs 200 per tola on Tuesday before surging by Rs 1,000 a tola on Wednesday.

Its price increased by Rs 300 per tola on Thursday before increasing by Rs 400 a tola to settle at Rs 99,900 per tola on Friday, the last trading day of the week.

Meanwhile, silver was traded at Rs 1,400 a tola on Sunday and its price fell to Rs 1,390 per tola on Monday. The price of grey metal remained unchanged on Tuesday before increasing by Rs 10 a tola on Wednesday. On Thursday, silver prices decreased by Rs 20 per tola and by Rs 10 a tola on Friday to settle at Rs 1,370 per tola for the week, as per the FeNeGoSiDA.

According to Reuters, gold prices firmed on Friday but were on course for their biggest weekly fall since mid-November as several central banks this week signalled that more rate hikes are needed to curb inflationary pressures.

Meanwhile, India being the world's biggest importer of silver and the second-biggest consumer of gold raised the base import prices of gold and silver late on Thursday.
