Shinning finale

KATHMANDU; Glitz, shimmer, glitter and a rainbow of colours — the last day of The Himalayan Times TGIF Nepal Fashion Week '09 started on a bright, shiny note. The evening of September 11, which concluded the five-day fashion extravaganza, presented more of ethnic and traditional collections from various boutiques.

Saris came in a variety of avatars on this day: intricate embroidery and eye-catching cut work, the saris on the ramp had different dimensions with oval pallu and quilts at the end. Designers also flaunted readymade saris with heavy embroideries emphasising on the svelte curves of a woman's body. Who knew that your granny saris could be transformed into such beautiful dresses and skirts? Designer Pratigya Thapa with her Camden collection showed us how it could be done and very beautifully too. Reaching into her grandmother's chest she used saris in fabrics like net, chiffon, silk et al to create styles that were more punk and bohemian.

Although red and green dominated the colour palette, some unique combinations like royal blue and peach, red and black with a touch of gold, different shades of red and pink added a whole new dimension to the ramp. Nude and subdued hues with lots of cut-work, zari work also shone added sparkle to the already shimmery night.

With her Jhilmil collection Kavvya's Uma Nemkul brought out ankle length kurta-suruwals with majestic flow and prints. The pockets in short and knee-length dresses from Princess Boutique added an interesting touch to the otherwise simple dresses.

And the finale also continued with the tradition of celebrity presence with actors like Rekha Thapa, Namrata Shrestha and Arunima Lamsal, and also first Miss Nepal Ruby Rana walking the ramp with her husband Prajaya Bikram Shah.

Boutiques featured were Dream Wear Fashion, Uttam's Creation, Princess Boutique and Kavya .
