KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 4The Ministry of Health and Population has launched a nationwide Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign against cervical cancer, alongside a new digital system to securely record vaccination data through collaboration between the health and education sectors. The Child Health and Immunization Service Section under the Family Welfare Division announced that details of all vaccinated schoolgirls will now be digitally recorded in the Integrated Education Management Information System (IEMIS), developed under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. The initiative marks a historic partnership between the National Immunization Programme (NIP) and IEMIS to ensure systematic, accurate, and secure documentation of HPV vaccinations.Under this system, schools will enter vaccination details, such as the date, vaccinating institution, and vaccine type, through the Student Vaccine Entry module in IEMIS. Officials say this will strengthen coordination between the health and education sectors and help make future immunization programmes more effective and data-driven.The latest HPV vaccination campaign is scheduled to be conducted nationwide from February 8 to February 27, though exact dates and times may vary by local level. The vaccine will be administered at respective schools, nearby schools, or designated health institutions. The campaign targets all girls studying in Grade 6, out-of-school girls aged 10 years, and those who missed last year's HPV vaccination, including girls currently in Grades 7 to 10 and out-of-school girls aged 11 to 14 years. The Ministry has urged parents, guardians, schools, and local authorities to coordinate with local education and health sections to ensure eligible girls receive the vaccine within the campaign period, reinforcing the drive toward a cancer-free future through a digitally supported immunization system.
