KATHMANDU, MAY 31

Former Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ramesh Kharel has been discharged from the hospital after recovering from severe case of COVID-19, on Monday evening.

Nepal Police Hospital's Spokesperson Dr Sanjaya Bikram Shrestha said former DIG Kharel has recovered from the infection and has been discharged today. "He has tested negative for Covid-19."

He further said former DIG Kharel was given high flow oxygen while on ventilator support for two weeks and shifted back to normal ward and was put on oxygen support prior to discharge.

Dr Achyut Bikram Hamal, who led the team involved in his treatment shared that Kharel will still be under observation. "He does not have to visit the hospital unless he suffers any health complications, to avoid catching infection at the hospital."

Taking to social media, former DIG Kharel thanked the front-liners for giving him a new lease of life and also appreciated all his well-wishers wishing for his well-being.

The former DIG was admitted in the Nepal Police Hospital, Maharajgung, for 17-days.
