KATHMANDU, MAY 11

Today's meeting of the National Assembly (NA) passed the government's policies and programmes for the upcoming fiscal year by a majority vote.

NA Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal announced that the document had been endorsed by a majority of members. Amendment proposals submitted by lawmakers on various points of the policies and programmes were rejected by the same margin.

Earlier in the session, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli addressed questions raised by lawmakers, stating that the policies and programmes were designed to promote good governance and accelerate national development.

"The policies and programmes reflect the imperative to safeguard national interests while upholding sovereignty, independence, and autonomy," Prime Minister Oli said.

He also voiced concern over the misuse of social media to spread anarchy under the guise of political activism, warning against attacks on the democratic system. The Prime Minister urged vigilance against forces that reject democracy and incite disruption in the name of restoring outdated systems, thereby endangering public and private property.

Oli affirmed that constructive suggestions made during the Assembly's deliberations would be incorporated into the upcoming national budget.

He further stated that the constitution would be amended based on broad consensus, education would be made more accessible and relevant to real life, and the current education system would be modernized and made more scientific.

Additionally, he reiterated the government's commitment to fostering balanced and robust relations with neighboring and international partners.

Condolence Motion Unanimously Approved

The meeting also unanimously passed a condolence motion on the demise of former minister Pradeep Nepal. The motion was presented by Chairperson Dahal and received unanimous support from the Assembly.

The next session of the National Assembly is scheduled for 1:15 PM on May 13.
