KATHMANDU, MAY 12

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasized that incorporating the teachings of Buddha into daily life would greatly benefit humanity.

Addressing a public Buddhist gathering held at Anandakuti Vihar in Swayambhu on the occasion of the 2649th Buddha Jayanti, the Prime Minister stated that Buddha's teachings are simple yet profound, primarily focusing on the establishment of global peace. "We should now direct our attention to Buddha's core principles-peace, the righteous path, friendship, tolerance, fraternity, and virtuous conduct," he said.

Highlighting the importance of promoting Buddhist knowledge, PM Oli stressed the continued preservation of Lumbini-the birthplace of Buddha-and the dissemination of his ideals. He also referred to the establishment of an international meditation center with a capacity for 8,000 individuals in Lumbini during his previous tenure as Prime Minister.

Furthermore, PM Oli reaffirmed the government's commitment to fully implementing the Lumbini Master Plan.

He noted that the 2649th birth anniversary commemorates not only the birth of Buddha but also marks the extraordinary moment of his enlightenment.

On the occasion, Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Sunita Dangol, the Ambassador of Myanmar to Nepal, and a representative from the Indian Embassy, among others, extended their best wishes.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Oli returned to Kathmandu after attending a commemorative event in Lumbini, held to mark Buddha Jayanti.
