KATHMANDU, MARCH 30
Speaker Devraj Ghimire has condemned Friday's incident at Tinkune as an attack on democracy and urged political parties to foster an environment for discussion and debate in parliament.
During a meeting with the Chief Whips of various political parties at the Parliament Building in New Baneshwar today, he emphasized the need to ensure that parliament remains active by addressing the issue at the national level.
Speaker Ghimire asserted that disrupting parliamentary proceedings under any circumstances is unjustifiable, particularly when the House must function effectively, even if not in session.
Chief Whip of the ruling Communist Party of Nepal (UML), Mahesh Kumar Bartaula, stated that the Prime Minister is scheduled to address the House on March 31. He also disclosed that a telephonic conversation took place between the Prime Minister and opposition leaders regarding the removal of parliamentary obstructions.
According to Bartaula, the Prime Minister has called for an all-party meeting later today. Meanwhile, the ruling party has urged the opposition to lift the blockade on parliamentary proceedings. However, opposition parties have maintained their stance, showing no indication of compromise.
