BAJURA, DECEMBER 15

Bhagya Chadara, 21, of Majhpali, Ward No 3 of Bajura's Gaumul Rural Municipality, gave birth on the way to the hospital. Earlier, she was referred to Bajura District Hospital from Gaumul Rural Municipality as there was no doctor to provide emergency parturition service in the district hospital. She was then referred to Achham for the same.

According to Auxiliary Nursing Midwife Rama Rokaya, the pregnant woman gave birth on the way to Achham's Bayalpata Hospital at Barjugad in Budhiganga Municipality. Though Bajura District Hospital pro-vides emergency parturition service, delivery of the service had been disrupted for the past one week due to lack of related doctors. As learnt, emergency parturition service at the hospital had been disrupted after a coterie of doctors, including Dr Sunil Kumar Sah, Dr Bipul Chaudhary and Dr Jasmita Balampaki, who attended to emergency parturition cases, were on leave.

Dr Dipendra Budha of the hospital said parturition-related doctors were on leave to attend their exam in Kathmandu.

Bhagya is not the only woman who had to bear her baby on the way. It's a predicament of many women in the district. Earlier, Nani Rokaya of Bamu, Ward No 1 of Himali Rural Municipality, had also given birth on the way to the hospital. She delivered while being taken to Bamu Basic Health Service Centre, three hours' away from her home.

Prior to that, Parbati Budha, 23, of Natikhola, Ward No 2 of Himali Rural Municipality had also given birth on the way to Bichhyan Health Post in Ward No 1.
