BIRGUNJ, APRIL 19

Devotees, flouting the guidelines issued to curb the spread of coronavirus disease, gathered at various water bodies to offer prayers to the rising sun on the occasion of Chaite Chhath Puja in Birgunj Metropolitan City on Sunday.

Despite rising cases of infection, Hindu devotees in huge numbers packed the banks of Ghadiarwa Pokhari, Ranighat, Mudali, Chhapkaiya, Inerwal, among other places of Birgunj to take part in the holy celebration.

The festival is dedicated to the Sun God. Locals revere the Sun God for four days from Chaitra Shukla Chaturthi to Chaitra Shukla Saptami as per the lunar calendar.

Offerings are made to the rising and setting Sun.
