KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 20

Nepal recorded 3,681 disaster incidents since mid-April, leaving 243 people dead, 869 injured, and 24 missing, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) reported. More than 6,590 households were affected.

Fire incidents topped the list with 1,295 cases, killing 23 people and injuring 177. Lightning caused the highest deaths after fire, striking 290 times and killing 38 people while injuring 212.

Other major events included:

- Snake bites: 304 incidents, 77 deaths, 233 injuries.

- Floods: 263 incidents, 29 deaths, 23 missing, 14 injuries, 1,861 families affected.

- Landslides: 463 incidents, 24 deaths, 41 injuries.

- Heavy rain: 340 incidents, six deaths, 14 injuries, 811 families affected.

- Storms: 284 incidents, eight deaths, 44 injuries, 541 families affected.

- Animal attacks: 217 incidents, 20 deaths, 88 injuries, 366 families affected.

- Forest fires: 85 incidents, two injuries, 27 families affected.

The NDRRMA said it is strengthening early warning systems and running public-awareness campaigns to reduce future disaster losses.
