Elderly killed in drunken brawl at Rautahat Dalit community

RAUTAHAT:  An elderly person died in a drunken brawl between two groups at a Dalit community in Debahi Gunahi Rural Municipality of Rautahat district on Wednesday night.

The deceased has been identified as local Lakshan Majhi (60).

Police arrested local residents Bramha Dev Majhi, Rambhu Majhi and Bikram Majhi for their alleged involvement in the brawl.

Lakshan had suffered serious injuries in his head during the violent argument between the groups involving drunken met at around 9 pm yesterday, according to the Rautahat District Police Office (DPO).

He was struck by a bamboo baton on his head.

The injured was rushed to the Garuda-based Health Land Hospital where he breathed his last at around 11 pm yesterday, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nabin Krishna Bhandari at the DPO.

The body of the deceased was handed to family members after postmortem at the District Hospital, informed DSP Bhandari.

While police are yet to move ahead with the investigation, they said vengeance was not the motive behind the fatal attack.
