KATHMANDU, JANUARY 21
Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak has pledged to implement immediate temporary measures alongside long-term plans to mitigate erosion caused by the Saptakoshi River.
Speaking during his inspection of the affected areas in Belaka Municipality, Udaypur, today, the Home Minister emphasized the need for sustainable solutions through collaboration with neighboring India.
He visited Sisauli, the area near the Saptakoshi Bridge site, and the Kothu region. As per his remarks, the government plans to control the river flow by constructing a temporary embankment along a three-kilometer stretch starting from the Belaka-based Saptakoshi Bridge. Furthermore, long-term measures will address erosion along an 11-kilometer section.
The Minister was accompanied by NC leader and lawmaker for Udaypur Constituency-1, Dr. Narayan Khadka.
Belaka Municipality Mayor Ashok Karki highlighted the annual displacement of hundreds of families due to the river's erosion. "We have urged the Minister to prioritize temporary measures in the high-risk three-kilometer area," Karki said.
Following his visit to Belaka, the Minister also inspected areas affected by the Triyuga River in the district, sources confirmed.
