NC MPs ask DPM Nidhi to probe Saptari incident

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmakers from Province No. 2 met Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi on Tuesday and demanded a judicial probe into yesterday's fatal incident in Saptari.

They claimed that the people in Madhes are agitated due to CPN-UML leaders's making provocative remarks against Madhes, and demanded suspension of security officials including Chief District Office, and SPs of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force. Saptari lies in the Province No. 2.

In response, DPM Nidhi said the government needed support from all sides to bring back situation to normalcy in Saptari, Nidhi's secretariat said in a statement.

At least three persons were killed after security personnel opened fired at protesters who tried to disrupt CPN-UML function at Maleth VDC near Rajbiraj.

Expressing grief over the Saptari incident, he informed the delegation that the Cabinet meeting will take an appropriate decision over the investigation and other issues.

He said he has already directed the authorities concerned to do the needful for treatment of those injured in Saptari.
