Bhutanese Youth Sports Club stunned Manang Marshyangdi Club 1-0 in the fourth and final quarter-finals of the 22nd Aaha-Rara Gold Cup here at the Pokhara Stadium today.
Prabin Basnet scored the solitary goal of the match in the first half to send the team from the United States into the last four. The 12-team finalists and six-time winners MMC - who had a first round bye - crashed out from the first match of the prestigious tournament of mofussil.
Basnet found the back of the nets in the 18th minute after he beat defender inside the box and slotted home.
The BYCC, who have been travelling to Nepal under the leadership of former Nepal national football team member Pralay Rajbhandari, had crashed out from the first match in the previous edition.
This time around the BYCC shocked MMC and set the semi-final date with Church Boys United.
On Wednesday, defending champions Nepal APF Football Club will take on Sankata Club in the first semi-final match.
BYCC will play against Church Boys United on Thursday. The final match of the tournament organised by Sahara Club is slated for Saturday. Top two teams will receive Rs 1.2 million and Rs 600,000 respectively.
