KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 13
Nepali golfers Subash Tamang and Sadbhav Acharya made mediocre start in the IGU 121st Amateur Golf Championship of India at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club in Mumbai today.
Tamang carded one-over 71 on the opening day to share the 17th position, while Acharya played threeover 73 to earn a share of 31st position after the first round of the most prestigious amateur tournament in India. Tamang played oneover 36 on the front nine before carding even-par 35 on the latter half. He carded a birdie on the fourth before dropping shots on the fifth and seventh holes before taking the turn.
On the back nine, Tamang faced a bogey on the 14th and carded a birdie on the 16th hole. He is tied on 17th with five Indian golfers.
Another Nepali player, Acharya played two-over 37 on the front nine and added one-over 36 after taking the turn. He suffered a double bogey five on the third hole and dropped a shot on the next. Acharya then faced bogeys on the 10th and 11th and suffered a double bogey on the 15th against birdies on the 13th, 16th and 18th holes.
Shaurya Binu of Karnataka opened the campaign with four-under 66 and took one-stroke lead over Delhi's Shaurya Bhattacharya and Uttar Pradesh's Vinamra Anand. Yuvraj Singh of Punjab and Sumit Kotwal of Karnataka shared the fourth position at one-under 69, while 11 golfers are tied for sixth at even-par 70. In all, 53 golfers are taking part in the event. Top 32 players will make it to the Match Play after second round.
