Renuka, Anish win championships
LALITPUR: Renuka Khatri of Kathmandu defeated Reshma Rasaili of Sunsari 11-9, 11-4, 13-11 in the junior girls’ section final of the first SNB Memorial Junior National Table Tennis Tournament here on Sunday. Anima Adhikari of Lalitpur and Nitija Thapa of Kathmandu finished joint third. In the junior boys’ section, Anish Shrestha of Kathmandu registered a 11-3, 11-7, 11-0 victory over Anup Bhakta Joshi of Morang in the final. Bibek Karki of Morang and Elish Singh of Lalitpur finished joint third.
Kathmandu duo of Erika Maharjan and Norden Tamang claimed the top two spots in the cadet girls’ section, whereas Kajal Rauniyar of Kaski and Sama Shrestha Lalitpur finished joint third.
In cadet boys section, Aman Dhamala beat Prasanna Khadka in the all-Lalitpur final. Prachanda Gautam, also from Lalitpur, and Krijal Koju of Bhaktapur came joint third. Sanisha Shrestha of Kathmandu came first ahead of
Sunita Lama of Kathmandu in the girls’ sub-junior category. Sushma Basnet of Lalitpur and Apakshya Shakya of Sunsari were joint third. In boys’ sub-junior section, Mani Lama of Lalitpur and Prakash Tamang of Sunsari claimed the top two spots respectively, while Nehal Shrestha of Kathmandu and Piyush Amal of Bhaktapur came joint third.
A total of 140 players from 15 districts took part in the tournament organised by Lalitpur District Table Tennis Association. Minister for Youth and Sports Ganesh Nepali gave away prizes to the winners.
