The organisers of the Right To Protein Run, Nepal Veterinary Association said they were all set for the second edition of the event at the Dasharath Stadium on Saturday.

The Run features eight categories - half marathon, 10km, 5km, 3km and wheelchair races, informed the NVA President Dr Sital Kaji Shrestha at a press meet on Thursday. "We have decided to add women's wheelchair event," he said.

Out of the total cash purse of Rs 1.36 million, the top five athletes in men's and women's 21km events will get Rs 100,000, Rs 75,000, Rs 50,000, Rs 40,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively, while the winners in men's 10km race will earn Rs 50,000, Rs 40,000, Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.

Likewise, top five players in women's 5km, boys' 5km and wheelchair races will get Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively, while the winners in 3km event will get Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 2,5000.

NVA President Shrestha said around 5,000 participants were expected to participate in the event. "As of now, more than 3,300 athletes have confirmed their participations and we are expecting some more by tomorrow," he said. "We are taking this event as a celebration and we have a six-year-old kid taking part in a fun run along with a 72-year-old veteran athlete running in the event," Shrestha added.

Nepal Athletics Association Secretary RK Bista said the preparations were almost over. "We are almost done with the preparation for the event. We will meet security chiefs tomorrow to ensure smooth route for the athletes. We have identified four spots - Thapathali, Koteshwor, Jadibuiti and returning point in Srijana Nagar - as crucial ones and we will try our best to provide the athletes with traffic-free route," Bista said. "As NAA has accepted the technical responsibility of the event, we will not leave any stone unturned for its grand success."
