BIRATNAGAR: Tribhuvan Army Club won the title of the fourth Shikhar Purush Girija Prasad Koirala Memorial National Hockey Tournament here on Monday.
Defending champions TAC defeated departmental rivals Nepal Police Club 1-0 in the final which was played under lights at the Shahid Maidan. Kashi Raj Rai scored the solitary goal of the match in the 41st minute. Nitij Neupane of TAC was named the player of the match.
Neupane was declared the best player of the tournament, while his TAC teammate Roman Rana was the highest scorer. NPC duo Hari Dutta Pandey and Yogesh Baraghare were named the best goalkeeper and defender respectively, while Mahesh Nepal of Sudurpashchim Province was adjudged the emerging player. Earlier, Sudurpashchim finished third.
Top three teams received Rs 75,000, Rs 41,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
A total of seven teams participated in the tournament organised by Nepal Hockey Association. Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki, Social Development Minister Buddhi Kumar Rajbhandari, NHA Senior Vice-president Anil Prasad Sharma and Tournament Convenor Ranjan Thapa among others handed over the prizes to the winners.
