Umesh Jung Thapa won the second edition title of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.
Thapa finished first won on count back after he was tied on six-under 66 nett with Pawan Bista. Thapa carded six-under 30 on the latter half, while Bista played three-under 33.
Bista was runner-up, while Karna Bahadur Thapa came third with the score of five-under 67.
Wangchen Dhondup won the gross section trophy with the score of three-under 69.
In all, 48 golfers took part in the event sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd.
Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire handed over prizes to the winners of the tournament which was played under stroke play full handicap format.
With the win, Umesh Jung Thapa earned a share of lead at the top of the nett section table with 100 points. Pawan Bista is third with 70 points, followed by Dr Bhagwan Koirala (60) and Sumod Bastakoti (45).
In gross category, Tashi Tshiring and Wangchen Dhondup are at the top of the standings with 140 points, while Tashi Dong is third with 120 points. Vijay Shrestha Einhaus and Rabindra Tiwari are tied at fourth with 35 each.
A total of 10 Medal rounds will be played before the Club Championships. Top 40 in nett section and top 10 in gross category will make it to the Club Championships, which will be played over two rounds in January and February next year.
