House to begin Karki impeachment debate Tuesday
KATHMANDU: The Parliament would begin deliberations on the impeachment motion against the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority chief, Lok Man Singh Karki, on Tuesday, Speaker Onsari Gharti announced.
After the motion, which was registered by 157 lawmakers of CPN-UML and CPN Maoist Centre,was tabled at the House meeting today, the Speaker said deliberations on the impeachment motion against the chief of anti-graft constitutional body would begin after two days.
After holding deliberations in the House, the impeachment motion would be sent to the Impeachment Recommendation Committee. The House would then put the motion to vote if the IRC recommended for further proceedings on impeachment.
Earlier on Wednesday evening, 107 lawmakers main opposition CPN-UML and 50 of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's Maoist party had registered the impeachment motion at theĀ Parliament Secretariat against Karki, accusing him of exercising extra-jurisdiction power.
Karki was suspended after the commencement of the impeachment proceedings.
The motion was scheduled to be tabled at the Parliament meeting on Thursday. However, the House was put off for today after Prime Minister Dahal asked the Speaker to provide some time for the major to come up with a common view on the impeachment motion.
Nepali Congress, the largest party in the Parliament, has not decided yet on whether to support the motion.
