BAJURA, SEPTEMBER 13

After his left leg was burnt while working in India five years ago, Pahuna Serala, 55, of Budhiganga Municipality has been unable to seek treatment for his condition all these years.

Short of fund, Serala had returned home five months ago following normal treatment for his condition. After the burnt leg started developing infection, his relatives took him to Bayalgada Hospital of Achham for treatment.

The hospital recommended amputation and referred him to a hospital in Kathmandu. His family has, however, taken him back home citing lack of fund for treatment. "As we don't have money, there is no way we could take him to faraway Kathmandu, so has been taken back home," said Pahuna's relatives, adding they had to borrow even to take him to Bayalpata Hospital.

"His condition is serious, so he must be taken to Kathmandu," said Bayalpata Hospital staffer Dipak Basta. "As the infection has already spread, there is no way other than amputation."
