KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 31
The Nepal Student Union, the student wing of the Nepali Congress, has drawn the government's attention to mismanagement, irregularities, and corruption thriving in Nepal Oil Corporation.
In the wake of yet another petroleum price hike, NSU protested the move and called on the government to open an all-out investigation into irregularities and corruption that is taking a toll on the stateowned company and consumers as well.
It also demanded that the government provide relief to petroleum consumers through the cash reserve of the NOC and price stabilisation.
The student wing warned that the latest series of price hike would lead to upward pressure on inflation. "Any decision taken by anyone in a manner that further worsens the living condition of people already crippled due to the COVID-19 pandemic is not acceptable to students," read the press release.
NSC has demanded that the government roll back the decision to hike the price of petroleum products during the festive season, while also calling on the authorities to intervene.
Meanwhile, All Nepal National Independent Students' Union (Revolutionary), the student wing affiliated to CPN (Revolutionary Maoist), staged a protest in front of the NOC, demanding withdrawal of the recent decision to hike the price of petroleum products.
Stating that the NOC had increased the price to rob the people of their livelihood, it warned that students would smear black soot on the faces of NOC officials if the decision was not taken back.
