Pa Dawa's 30th Everest summit headlines record-filled day on Nepal's peaks

Nepal’s spring climbing season witnessed another historic day on Monday as veteran climber Pasang Dawa Sherpa, popularly known as Pa Dawa, summited Mt Everest for the 30th time, becoming only the second climber in history to achieve the feat after Kami Rita Sherpa.

Two Nepali mountaineers etched their names deeper into Everest history on Sunday morning, with Kami Rita Sherpa completing his record 32nd ascent of the world's highest peak and Lhakpa Sherpa reaching the summit for an unprecedented 11th time, both on the same day.

Everest route open for Spring 2026 season after fixing team summits

Mount Everest's climbing route is now open for the Spring 2026 season after an 11-member rope-fixing team led by Mingma Dorchi Sherpa reached the 8,848.86-metre summit at approximately 10:25 am on Wednesday, the Expedition Operators' Association Nepal (EOAN) announced.

Hantavirus risk to Nepal remains very low, says EDCD

Health authorities have assessed the risk of hantavirus infection in the country as very low, even as a cluster of Andes virus cases linked to a cruise ship has claimed three lives and infected at least 11 people globally, prompting the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) to place international entry points on alert.
